What is the Endo-Cannabinoid System?

The Endo-Cannabinoid system (ECS) is a collection of cell receptors and corresponding molecules that was discovered in the 1990’s. You can think of the cell receptors like a key slot that can only be activated by cannabinoids. The ECS system contains two primary cell receptors (CB1) Cannabinoid Receptor 1 and (CB2) Cannabinoid Receptor 2. The CB1 receptors are concentrated in the brain and central nervous system, but also sparsely populates other parts of the human body. CB2 receptors are mostly in the peripheral organs especially cells associated with the immune system.
